Financing
Efficiency Maine offers a variety of loan types to meet your financing needs and monthly budget.
- Efficiency Maine ENERGY LOANS: are available statewide providing quick easy loans as low as $1,000 and loans for larger projects up to $15,000 at 4.99% APR.
- Maine PACE loans: are available in more than 180 municipalities and provide up to $15,000 over 15 years at 4.99% APR on any residential property with 1 to 4 living units.
- Efficiency Maine MICRO LOANS: Smaller loans that allow homeowners to borrow up to $4,000 over 10 years at 5.99% APR to afford the most cost-effective energy saving improvements like air sealing, insulation and ductless heat pumps.

Home Energy Savings Rebate Program (HESP)
Efficiency Maine offers incentives and financing for homeowners improving the energy performance of their home, including qualified upgrades to the building envelope. There are added rebates for Unitil, Maine & Bangor Natural Gas customers. This is not a tax credit, but a check directly back from Efficiency Maine.
Available Rebates:
- Air Sealing: 6 hours of air sealing or equivalent insulation work. This includes attic hatches, weatherstripping, caulking and other measures to eliminate air leaks.
Air Sealing Rebates: $400 with a minimum cost of $600.
- Building Insulation: There are individual rebates available for basement, wall and attic insulation work.
Insulation Rebates: $500 with a minimum cost of $1500. For natural gas customers, it is $1400 with a $2400 minimum cost
- Wood or Pellet Stove: Efficiency Maine has a list of eligible wood and pellet stoves.
Stove Rebates: $300 for qualifying systems.
- Heat Pumps: Efficiency Maine has a list of eligible Energy Star heat pumps.
Heat Pump Rebates: $500 for a single head system or $750 for a multi-head system.
- Central Heating System: Efficiency Maine has rebates for Energy Star rated systems.
Heating System Rebates: $300 for an Energy Star systems. Natural gas customers are eligible for a $1000 rebate.
- Geothermal and Pellet Boilers: Efficiency Maine has rebates for ultra-high efficient geothermal and pellet boiler systems.
Geothermal/Pellet System Rebates: $3000 for a qualifying system.
Low Income Home Energy Savings Rebate Program (LIHESP)
Efficiency Maine also offers enhanced incentives qualifying LIHESP homeowners. If Maine residents currently receives state heating assistance (LIHEAP), receive General Assistance, have a property value under $80,000 or have amobile home, they can qualify for LIHESP.
Available Rebates:
- Energy Bundle: 6 hours of air sealing, replacing light bulbs and showerheads, and a selection of other upgrades.
Energy Bundle Rebates: $1000 rebate with a minimum cost of $1050, net $50 cost.
- Building Insulation: There are individual rebates available for basement, wall and attic insulation work.
Insulation Rebates: $1000 with a minimum cost of $1500, net $500 cost.
- Heat Pumps: Efficiency Maine has a list of eligible Energy Star heat pumps.
Heat Pump Rebates: 80% of the cost of the heat pump installation, up to a $2000 rebate.
